Overtime on Deadheads VAWPAS Pool

For those that work the Vancouver to Pasco ID pool some have experienced longer than usual on a deadhead account of the weather. Thanks to Eric Gruber.

Here is the response he got from Steve Halbrook on OT.

Eric,

Sorry for not answering your call, been on the phone all morning catching up from our new LC orientation.  You are correct in your interpretation as to deadheads and overtime. Your pool is one of the only pools who get OT. There are a few that go on pro-rata rate of pay after 12 hours (straight time) on a long pool, but overtime after 12 on a long pool is very scarce. But paragraph (f) is clear in its wording and that agreement is still in force.

Hey Steve hope all is well.

Recently there have been some people asking about why they are not getting overtime, after 12hrs, on deadheads to Pasco.  Per Section 8(f) of the Pool agreement engineers should be paid overtime after 12hrs both in regular service and deadhead.  However, the carrier is saying there is no provision in our trip rates for OT on deadheads.  Could you please look into this as I am unable to find anything saying what the carrier is stating.  I’ve attached the section of the Pool agreement.  I guess we are slaves now for however long after a trip rate is paid.

Pre-Retirement Seminar Portland OR

I received this from the RRB.  It’s very good information and you are better informed by the people who know. Mark your calendars and register.

Good Morning!

Attached is the flyer and registration form for our upcoming Pre-Retirement Seminar that will be held on June 7th, 2019. We are doing the conferences a little differently this year. Instead of having separate Pre-Retirement Seminars and Informational Conferences we are combining them into one! This means that ALL railroaders and their spouses are invited!

The seminar will be held at:

Hilton Garden Inn Portland Airport

12048 NE Airport Way

Portland OR 97220

Registration begins at 8:00.  We reserved a room that will hold up to 80 people… last Pre-Retirement Seminar we had over 100 attendees so please encourage early registration!

Please pass this flyer around to anyone you think would be interested. I would be grateful if you could post it in a public place within your workspace as well.  Registration is available online at RRB.Gov/PRS approximately 60 days in advance of the date of the seminar.

Thanks!

ICP

Brothers, The Carrier has announced the 2018 ICP award this morning and it came in at 105% of 150. Regarding our payment the math is 105% of 150 equals 70%. Therefore 70% of the maximum payment of 8.08% is 5.656%. Hopefully you followed that calculation as the Carrier figures the exempt ICP payout on a 150 point scale.

The long and short of this method is that Locomotive Engineer ICP will be paid 5.656 % of qualified earnings.

Fraternally,

Matt Brandt
