Overtime on Deadheads VAWPAS Pool

For those that work the Vancouver to Pasco ID pool some have experienced longer than usual on a deadhead account of the weather. Thanks to Eric Gruber.

Here is the response he got from Steve Halbrook on OT.

Eric,

Sorry for not answering your call, been on the phone all morning catching up from our new LC orientation.  You are correct in your interpretation as to deadheads and overtime. Your pool is one of the only pools who get OT. There are a few that go on pro-rata rate of pay after 12 hours (straight time) on a long pool, but overtime after 12 on a long pool is very scarce. But paragraph (f) is clear in its wording and that agreement is still in force.

Hey Steve hope all is well.

Recently there have been some people asking about why they are not getting overtime, after 12hrs, on deadheads to Pasco.  Per Section 8(f) of the Pool agreement engineers should be paid overtime after 12hrs both in regular service and deadhead.  However, the carrier is saying there is no provision in our trip rates for OT on deadheads.  Could you please look into this as I am unable to find anything saying what the carrier is stating.  I’ve attached the section of the Pool agreement.  I guess we are slaves now for however long after a trip rate is paid.
